The Teaching and Scholarship Podcast

The Teaching and Scholarship Podcast is formerly a collaboration between The University of Southampton's Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) and The Faculty of Medicine). Its future is associated with The University of Glasgow and will continue its good work north of the border. It is intended to be of interest to all teaching focused academics in higher education who strive towards teaching excellence and wish to innovate their practice. The podcast aims to promote and raise the profile of teaching excellence within university education.

In episode 13 we chat to Professor Tony Sampson, who is the Director of Programmes (Undergraduate) in the Faculty of Medicine and the education lead for the School of Clinical & Experimental Sciences at The University of Southampton.

Previously the leader of Year 1 of the Bachelor of Medicine (BM5/6/EU) programme from 2011 to 2018, Tony has won the Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Award (2011) and was voted ‘Outstanding Faculty Lecturer’ by Southampton medical students in 2013 and again in 2014. Tony is well known amongst medical students for his inimitable lecturing style that usually involves his characteristic 'dead-pan' delivery with copious amounts of dry wit thrown in for good measure! In this podcast we have a relaxed chat with him about his pharmacology textbook, his teaching approaches and his mild disliking of live lecture capture recording!
